A Note from Our New Executive Director

We are very pleased to welcome Leslie Conner, who took the helm as Executive Director on August 29, 2011. Here is a quick note from her:

Dear Supporter of Community Health Care:

I am truly honored to lead such a vital provider of health care services for low-income Santa Cruz County residents. It is a privilege to work with such a committed board of directors and staff, including our dedicated physicians who provide uncompromisingly compassionate, high-quality care. The clinic plays a valuable role in the community’s safety net system, enabling thousands of uninsured and the publicly insured patients to access critically needed services from prevention to chronic disease
management to mental health care.

As I acclimate myself to the clinic, I will be focusing on opportunities to build our capacity to expand services to those who need them most, as well as prepare for 2014 when national health care reform offers health coverage to thousands of local residents for the first time. Our community will look to clinics like the Women’s Health Center as critical providers of primary care for these newly eligible families. We will be working to ensure they have access to a high quality, patient-centered medical home in the Santa Cruz Women’s Health Center.

I am fortunate that Amy Peeler, the former executive director, is committed to supporting my new role. Amy has accepted a position at the County Health Services Agency but she continues to be available and informative during this transition period.
